“Mr. Hadley looked at his wife and they turned and looked back at the beasts edging slowly forward, crouching, tails stiff. Mr. and Mrs. Hadley screamed. And suddenly they realized why those other screams had sounded familiar.”
–Ray Bradbury, The Illustrated Man, “The Veldt,” pg. 30
Write about someone who has premonitions of their own death, but doesn’t realize that’s what they are. Maybe, they here their own screams in the middle of the night, but can’t place the sound. Or they dream of a murder but can’t see their own face. As the moment of their death approaches, they start to understand what’s going on and they’re able to stop it, but whatever was causing the premonitions isn’t happy. It feels cheated and is out for revenge.
