Tiny Irate Memories

“People have an annoying habit of remembering things they shouldn’t.”

― Christopher Paolini, Eragon

Tyler could remember everything. Every conversation he ever had, every sound, every smell. It became overwhelming to the point that he would retreat into his mind and block out his surroundings. If he focused too much and listened to the sounds of squeaking sneakers on the hallway floors, he’d be hearing it all day. Memories, tiny irate memories, stuck to him like flies on fly paper. As he walked to class, he would let his eyes glaze over and try to look at nothing. He obviously had the path to all his classes memorized, and he was a pretty big dude, so people would move around him, until someone didn’t. A significantly shorter student with dark frazzled hair, bumped right into him and dropped all his books and papers on the ground. The sea of students didn’t even part for him. Anything he couldn’t grab right away, was trampled. Tyler stooped to help, but even he couldn’t grab everything in time. He apologized, but the other boy was too flustered to notice. As soon as he had gathered as much as he could, he fled down the hall. Tyler, still stooped and shocked, watched him go then proceeded to think about him all day….
