“A one-eyed man is much more incomplete than a blind man, for he knows what it is that’s lacking.”
― Victor Hugo, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
He was born with one working eye, or so they thought. For most of his life up until now, his left eye only saw darkness. Recently, however, he thought he was getting sight for the first time. He could see colors and shapes, but they didn’t quite line up with what his right eye was seeing. When he saw the red, fiery blob flickering off his boss, he knew that what he was seeing was something like an aura. Most people had simple auras, blue, liquid-like blobs for people in mourning, or a bright yellow for someone having a great day. He thought nothing much of his new ability until he saw the man shrouded in black. He was a well-respected man, and seeing how much he was trusted scared our main character. What was the man hiding? He started to wonder if there was more to his ability than just seeing auras, was there something he could do to protect people from the man with the black aura? Or was he powerless? When he witnesses the man in black do something beyond comprehension, he’ll be forced to reckon with a great, unknowable power.
