Aimless Love

“In the shadows of an autumn evening,/ I fell for a seamstress/ still at her machine in the tailor’s window,/ and later for a bowl of broth,/ steam rising like smoke from a naval battle./ This is the best kind of love, I thought,/ without recompense, without gifts,/ or unkind words, without suspicion,/ or silence on the telephone.”

— Billy Collins, Aimless Love

People like to say that love hurts, but many others will counter saying that true love never hurts. Write a poem from your own perspective or from that of a characters about your/ their experience with love. The good and the bad. Love of a person, a thing, a pet, or whatever. Write about the different kinds of love. Write about the different ways you/ they have fallen in love. Do you/ they love love?
