Set a timer for one minute. Write as many random two word combinations as you can. For example:

Marker jumps 

Document dialect

The weirder the better! When you’re done, look over your list and pick a few (or all!) to explain or write a short story about. For example:

Crab sheets are sheets you put on tiny beds made for crabs. 

Marker jumps are when you connect enough markers to make a jump rope out of and then jump rope with them. 

Sometimes the most powerful sentences use surprising word combinations. Not every sentence needs these, but having them interspersed in your stories and poems, can make them very memorable.
