“Kendra stared out the side window of the SUV, watching foliage blur past. When the flurry of motion became too much, she looked up ahead and fixed her gaze on a particular tree, following it as it slowly approached, streaked past, and then gradually receded behind her.”
― Brandon Mull, Fablehaven
As she drove, Marline noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Along the side of the road, keeping up with her car, was a man running and doing parkour over road signs. Shocked, and nostalgic for her childhood daydreams, she decided to follow the man, but eventually he disappeared into the trees. She spent her whole work day wondering if what she saw was real, and afterward decided to park on the side of the road and explore. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary in the woods, until she caught a glimpse of the man in the distance. She started to run, not considering the fact that he must have been moving at 80 MPH earlier. She called out to him and for a moment he disappeared, only to reappear right in front of her. Trying to stop, she tripped and fell. “Who are you?” The man asked. “I could say the same thing,” she said. He ignored her and asked, “how can you see me?”
