Lacking Faith

“I would pass in the street, mostly people whose existence I did not believe in.”

–Billy Collins, Paris

Growing up, he always felt that things ceased to exist when he stopped believing in them, like Santa Clause and the Easter bunny, but he knew that they had never existed in the first place. As he got older, he stopped believing in most things: God, love, and happiness. The world got gloomier around him, as it should. One day, after a particularly rough fight with his friend, he stopped believing in him too, wondering if he would go away. After several days of not showing up to school, he started asking around, but everyone acted like they never knew his missing friend. He called the kid’s parents, but they said they didn’t have a son. This was either a cruel joke, or something was really wrong….
