Wasting Time

“Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. The violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring, and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish.”

–Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves

Write about a time when you wasted an hour. What did you do to make the time pass and why? Recount your feelings and sensory descriptions as best as you can. Was it an accident or an intentional waste of time? Were you waiting for something or avoiding something? As you write about this time, think about what it means to you, how does it relate to other events in your life? How can this one story become a part of your longer memoir?
